In memory of his first wife, Frances Taylor Pearsons Plimpton, Wellesley Class of1884, George Arthur Plimpton presented the nucleus of this collection of Italian literature to Wellesley College in 1904, making additions from time to time. A portion of the collection was exhibited at the Grolier Club that year. As described by the Wellesley College Special Collection department, the Plimpton Collection is “renowned for its fine Renaissance manuscripts, incunabula, and early editions of Boccaccio, Dante, and Petrarch, many still in their original bindings. Savonarolla’s tracts and sermons are well represented, and holdings of early editions of Romances of Chivalry are particularly strong.”
