FRANCES T. P. PLIMPTON

Speech at Wellesley College Alumnae Association Autograph manuscript, ca. 1890s

Plimpton Papers

This is the text of the talk, written in her own hand, that Frances Plimpton gave as President of the Wellesley Club. The note at the top of the first page was written by Mr. Plimpton, presumably after her death. In her address, Mrs. Plimpton touched on many important and difficult issues, such as higher standards for women admitted to the College, more men as teachers and administrators if they be the best qualified for the job, and increasing the endowment.

Plimpton Papers

Kept by Mr. Plimpton along with the letters of condolence that he received upon the death of Frances is this simple placard announcing the closing of the offices of Ginn & Company for her funeral at 2:00 p.m. As he noted in his diary, “Francis Pearsons Plimpton baptized at 2:40 p.m.”

GEORGE ARTHUR PLIMPTON

Letter to Francis T. P. Plimpton

Postmarked Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, August 17, 1904

Plimpton Family Papers

Plimpton wrote to his son as much as he could while away from New York, and a number of these letters survive in the Plimpton Family Papers. This charming letter to four-year-old Francis was composed while on board the Manhattan Limited.
