This is the extremely rare specimen sheet showing type based on Arrighi's italic hand. It contains the complete alphabet, as well as the Lord's Prayer and Hail Mary in Italian.
Ludovico degli Arrighi began his career as a printer and publisher in 1524 in partnership with Lautizio Perugino, a goldsmith who may have been his punch cutter.
Following Aldus's lead, Arrighi used types based on the cancelleresca corsiva hand that was used by the Vatican scribes. Arrighi provided patterns for the corsiva in his writing manual, La Operina, published in Rome in 1522. In keeping with the teachings of Trissino, this specimen includes the letters j and v. The design was revived by Frederick Warde as "Arrighi" and was later used as the italic for Centaur, a roman type designed by Bruce Rogers.
