Boston Symphony

Program, concert at the Metropolitan Opera House, January 23, 1896

Edward MacDowell Papers, Rare Book and Manuscript Library

MacDowell played his own Concerto No. 1, Op. 15, as well as the premier performance of his “Indian Suite” from manuscript. Columbia's music search committee was in attendance, and the experience prompted the committee chairman, John W. Burgess, to write later, “we went away from that concert pretty well convinced that MacDowell was our man.”
