Ulysses Kay: Twentieth Century Composer

"Forever Free: A Lincoln Chronicle," was commissioned by Broadcast Music Inc. for the U.S. Civil War Centennial Commission, and the commemoration of the one hundreth anniversary of the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation.

It received its premier on September 22, 1962 in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial, performed by the U. S. Marine Band, Captain Dale Harpham conducting.

Kay's other works for band include: "Solemn Prelude" (1949), "Trigon" (1961), and "Prologue and Parade" 1977).
