Daniel Defoe's masterpiece, Robinson Crusoe, was popularized by many translations and interpretations throughout the early modern period. In 1779, Joachim Heinrich Campe published Robinson der Jungere (The Young Robinson) in German, which included didactic asides from the author to the reader. The work was popular among Jews as well, as shown by Yiddish and Hebrew translations that were created with a Jewish protagonist.
This volume contains a Hebrew version of Campe's retelling, translated by Eliʻezer ben Shimon Bloch. This Hebrew version was published in Warsaw in 1849.
