YITSḤAK BEN DAVID LEON.
Manuscript in Hebrew on paper.
MS X893 L55
Rare Book and Manuscript Library
This manuscript contains a compilation of analysis and exegesis of the Bible, Midrash, and Talmud by Rabbi Isaac ben David de Leon. Many of his interpretations were written to commemorate communal events or to honor notable communal figures. Isaac de Leon wrote eulogies for important men and women, such as Gedaliya Hiyyun, who he praised as “a promoter of Torah in the holy Portuguese congregation” in Constantinople. He also wrote on the occasion of his wife’s brother’s wedding, and in honor of the circumcision of community member Rabbi Hayim Egozi’s infant son.
