In some communities, an elaborately decorated marriage contract also served to indicate the wealth of the groom's family. Upon the marriage of Abraham de Brugnato and Esther Kiridi, the groom chose to include far more than the traditional text of the ketubbah indicating the husband's obligations to the wife and amounts to be paid in the case of divorce. This ketubbah also includes a list of the items given to Abraham as Esther’s dowry, as well as all of Abraham's gifts to Esther, in exquisite detail, describing the colors and materials of the clothing given, as well as specific types of jewelry.
